Centuries-old Shipwreck, Lancang Kuning, was discovered by Archaeologists at Nirwana Beach Club!
A new centuries-old shipwreck has been discovered at Nirwana Beach Club!
The shipwreck, known as Lancang Kuning, was first exposed after a strong monsoon in 2016 and investigations were undertaken by BRIN Indonesia and the University of Napoli L’Orientale.
The project was founded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Association of Mediterranean and Oriental Studies (ISMEO). It is a joint project titled “Indonesian Endangered Boatbuilding Knowledge.” Archaeological investigations were conducted both underwater and inland. According to the archaeologists, the ship is entirely preserved at 23.4 metres long, 5.5 metres wide, and was built using a Southeast Asian pre-modern system of boat construction.
