Third Clutch of Hawksbill Turtle Eggs Found at Indra Maya Pool Villas Vicinity

As part of a momentous effort in marine conservation, staff at Nirwana Gardens stumbled upon a rare treasure nestled in the sands of Indra Maya Pool Villas. On May 2, 2024, a third clutch, nesting a total of 135 Hawksbill turtle eggs, was discovered, marking a significant stride in the ongoing efforts to protect these endangered creatures with intensive monthly beach cleaning at all beaches within the Nirwana Gardens compound.

Upon finding the nest, the staff swiftly enacted protocols to ensure the eggs’ safety, carefully relocating them to a protected hatchery for incubation.

Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) play a crucial role in marine ecosystems by maintaining healthy coral reefs. They feed on sponges, controlling sponge populations, and preventing overgrowth that could smother coral reefs. These species are among the most critically endangered species globally, primarily due to habitat loss, pollution, and poaching. With only a few thousand nesting females remaining worldwide, each new clutch of eggs is a vital contribution to the survival of the species.

This third clutch of Hawksbill turtle hatchlings will be released during the week of 29 June to 4 July 2024. The exact date will be announced a week in advance once an expected hatch date can be established by the staff at the hatchery.
