A total of 65 kilograms of waste was successfully lifted from the seabed in a sea clean up action executed on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, at 14.00 Bintan Time, in the Watersport Beach Front area, Bintan Island. This activity is conducted at two main diving points, namely the diving area for beginners at Nirwana Beach Club and the UnderSea Walker area at Mayang Sari Beach. The sea clean up action was done by a professional diving team consisting of four people, namely Jaz (Dive Instructor), Bonai (Rescue Diver), Richard (Rescue Diver), and Jufri (Dive Master). In this activity, diving was carried out by reaching an area of 300 to 375 meters from the shoreline.

Divers collect trash hidden between rocks and embedded in sand and mud. The most common types of trash found are plastic, bottles, cans, sacks, and ropes. This action is not just about cleaning the sea, but also a form of our concern for the environment and a real invitation for the community to help protect our sea together.

An important message to be conveyed to the public through this activity is the need for collective awareness of the impact of throwing waste into the sea. Especially because Bintan Island is located on International waters, many ships dump waste at night or while sailing. The waste is carried by the current and eventually washes up on the beach, especially during the northern season or monsoon season. In addition, coastal communities and those living around rivers are also urged not to throw waste into the sea or rivers, because in the end all the waste will end up in the sea, polluting the ecosystem and threatening underwater life.
